I understand where you're coming from, but I've read many Medium articles where an entire group is addressed but, actually, it was directed at the problematic people within the group. Plus, the majority of these types of articles are opinion pieces from the author's POV and should be read as such. There are male writers on Medium who I generally like (and do follow), but go off the rails at times about gold diggers and teenage hussies who are old enough to handle being sex trafficked and know what they are doing. I just don't respond or clap (if I can get all the way through). Even on Medium there are creepers (Quora, too). I just ignore them and move on. Why? Because I've met more good guys than creepers. However, women do have to be on their guard against such men. Maybe the writer addressed a larger audience in hopes that she could address some creepers out there. If she had addressed only them - they would never read the article.
